Stop Bush - Anti Bush : I’m sure Turkey and Iran aren’t all that pleased about the US military presence in Iraq either

BAGHDAD, Iraq - President Jalal Talabani expressed his concern Sunday over reported Iranian and Turkish troop concentrations on those countries’ borders with Iraq.

Turkey has moved thousands of troops to the border region in what its military said was an offensive against Turkish Kurd guerrillas.

Iran also reportedly has moved forces to the border, and last week shelled a mountainous region inside Iraq used by Iranian Kurd fighters for infiltration into Iran, according to Iraqi Kurd officials.
No casualties were reported from Friday’s artillery and rocket barrage.

Talabani said that so far Iranian and Turkish forces have stayed on their sides of the border.

Stop Bush - Anti Bush : Bush Won’t Declare Disaster for Levees

SAN FRANCISCO - President Bush has issued an unusual waiver that will allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to accept state money for critical levee repairs, a senior Bush administration official said Friday.

In a meeting planned Friday afternoon in San Jose with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bush did not plan to grant the federal disaster declaration the governor sought as heavy rains strained the fragile levee system.

Stop Bush - Anti Bush : Iran ready for “full’ cooperation with IAEA: envoy

MOSCOW - Iran’s ambassador to the UN’s nuclear watchdog said here Friday that Tehran was ready for “full” cooperation with that agency and was prepared to answer all questions about its nuclear program, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

“Iran plans to continue its full cooperation with the IAEA. We are ready to eliminate all outstanding doubts about our nuclear dossier,” the envoy, Ali Akbar Salehi, was quoted as saying in a speech to participants at a security conference in Moscow.

Salehi’s comments came a day after a senior UN nuclear inspector put off a trip to Iran in what diplomats in Vienna said was a clear sign that Tehran is failing to give the UN atomic agency key concessions it demands.

RIA Novosti reported that he also said the Iranian leadership was prepared to place its nuclear facilities under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), but it provided no direct quotation from him to this effect.

Stop Bush - Anti Bush : US Army suicide rate last year highest since 1999

WASHINGTON, April 21 (Reuters) - The number of soldiers who took their own lives while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan rose in 2005 over the previous year, as the U.S. Army experienced its highest suicide rate since 1999, officials said on Friday.

The Army released statistics showing that 12.9 per 100,000 U.S. soldiers committed suicide in 2005, up from 11.0 per 100,000 in 2004. The 2005 suicide rate was the highest for the Army since 13.1 per 100,000 in 1999.

The Army is the largest service in the U.S. military and provides most of the troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Pentagon also released data showing the suicide rate in 2005 dropped from the previous year in both the Marine Corps and the Navy. Air Force data was unavailable.

Stop Bush - Anti Bush : Nearly 30 percent at Guantanamo jail cleared to go

WASHINGTON, April 21 (Reuters) - Nearly 30 percent of the Guantanamo detainees have been cleared to leave the prison but remain jailed because the U.S. government has been unable to arrange for their return to their home countries, the Pentagon said on Friday.

The Pentagon refused to identify these 141 men despite having released on Wednesday its first comprehensive list of detainees held at the prison for foreign terrorism suspects at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Of these 141 detainees among the 490 still at Guantanamo, various military reviews have cleared 22 to be freed in their home countries and the remaining 119 for transfer to the control of their home governments.

“It’s just an outrageous situation where people have gone through this system that has been established, such as it is, and the (U.S.) government itself has found there’s no reason for them to be held any longer, and yet they continue to be held,” said Curt Goering, a senior Amnesty International USA official.

The TSA quoted the Arabic message as saying: “We call upon all Muslims to follow and identify private civilian American aircrafts in all airports of the world.”

“It is the duty of Muslims to destroy all types of private American aircraft that are of the types Gulfstream and Lear Jet and all small aircraft usually used by distinguished (people) and businessmen,” it quoted the message as saying.

It said the message explained how to identify private U.S. jets and also provided the tail number of a private plane believed to be used by the CIA.

Stop Bush - Anti Bush : Bush Says Little Can Be Done About High Gas Prices

Bush Says Little Can Be Done About High Gas Prices

(AP) SAN JOSE As oil prices hit a record, drivers worried about $3-a-gallon gas and politicians feared the impact on elections, President Bush on Friday acknowledged the pain but seemed resigned to being able to do little about it.

“I know the folks here are suffering at the gas pump,” the president said while promoting his competitiveness initiative at the Silicon Valley headquarters of Internet networking company Cisco Systems Inc. “Rising gasoline prices is like taking a _ is like a tax, particularly on the working people and the small-business people.”

But to address the immediate problem, Bush offered only a pledge that “if we find any price gouging it will be dealt with firmly.”

Bush said that lowering America’s dependance on foreign oil imports will help reduce the country’s vulnerability to global oil price fluctuations. On Saturday, the president was pushing his proposals to boost spending to develop alternative energy sources, particularly hydrogen-fueled cars.
